The Brief
Updating the old bathroom
The original bathroom had cream walls, a long laminate vanity, a framed shower screen and small beige floor tiles.
The owners wanted something lighter and more modern, but still warm rather than stark. They wanted the finishes to work together rather than having the tiles, vanity and fittings compete with each other.
The tile and bathroomware selection was worked through at the Devine Tiles Geelong West showroom. The final selection included limestone-look porcelain wall tiles, a marble-look floor tile, twin vessel basins, LED mirrors and matte black fittings.
The smaller floor tiles and framed shower were breaking up the room visually. The larger tile format helped create a more continuous look, while the frameless shower kept more of the tile visible.

What we supplied
The owners were looking for a warm, neutral palette, so we started with the tile selection and built the bathroomware around it. Here's what went into the finished room.
-
Wall tileWall tiles
Large-format limestone-look porcelain, used across the walls floor to ceiling. Ask in-store for the current range name and slab size.
-
Floor tileFloor tiles

-

Basin mixers, shower head and handheld rail, and towel rails, all in matte black to match the rest of the fittings.

Matte black flush plate for the wall-hung toilet in its own nook.
The Selection
How the finishes were selected
The wall tile was the starting point for the selection. Once the limestone-look porcelain was chosen, we looked for a floor tile and bathroomware that worked with its warmer tones.
The marble-look floor added some variation without introducing a completely different colour palette. Matte black bathroomware then gave the room a consistent contrast across the basins, tapware, shower fittings and accessories.
When choosing products for a bathroom, it's worth looking at the wall tile, floor tile and bathroomware together rather than making each decision separately. A combination can look quite different once the products are seen side by side.
Before & After
Same footprint, same window
The before shot shows the cream walls, framed sliding screen and small beige floor tiles the room started with. The after is taken from a similar position — the new tile selection, larger surfaces, vanity design and frameless shower changed how the room feels without changing its footprint.
